This book takes place far into the future where the people of earth live on giant cities suspended from satellites in space. Cosmo an orphan at the Clarissa Frayne Institute for Parentally Challenged Boys, like many other boys are forced to do hard labor along with testing new chemical combinations. Cosmo now 14 realizes that if he doesn't get out of this so called orphanage soon he wont live to see his 16th year. When he is given the chance to escape, he takes it, but is chased by the warden Redwood over the side of a building. He is pronounced dead. but is rescued by an older boy and girl , and a dwarf. After his near death experience, Cosmo is now able to see strange creatures that appear to suck the life out of hurt victims. it is up to the 4 teens to rid the world of these horrible things. Or will they find that they have been fighting the wrong enemy all along.
