The first book is about Jessica coming to town and figuring out what her powers are. Each "midnighter" has a power to defeat the darklings. Darklings are ancient beings that roamed the world years ago. They hate technology, light, and anything that is 13. There are at least 5 powers, Seer, Flame bringer, psychic, Acrobat, and mind caster.
