Tale of Despereaux

My daughter Julia (8) & I just finished reading "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate DiCamillo. It was a heartwearming, lovely story about a mouse, a rat, and a princess. While you might initially mistake it for a "fairy tale," this one was not your ordinary princess story. There is tragedy, adventure, suspense and last but not least, love (the essence of every fairy tale, wouldn't you agree)? This one, in my opinion, is a "must read" -- a tale that I'd love to read over and over again.

Some More Books

Stop Pretending was a book with only poems. The poems were about how she felt when her big sister went crazy. The Demonata-Lord Loss was a good book. Very descpritive, I could picture it in my mind. It was a book about a hell kind of. Like demons and stuff. It's was a pretty gory book so beware if you don't like that kinda of books. And lastly I read Cirque Du Freak- The Living Nightmare. It's about his boy whose goes to a freak show. The freak show changes his life.

So was Dangerous Girls, the first and second book. Leslies Journal was a perfect book in you like to read about teenager problems. It was about Leslie and she has to wirte in this journal for class. In it she wirtes about what happens to her. It may have saved her life. And the last I read was Sunlight and Shadow. This was a really good book. It was a love story. It has good metaphors and similes. I really recomend all the books that I read.

Rain

I'm reading this book called Rain. It's really good. It's about this girl named Rain who is is raised in a really bad neighborhood where she see's murders on the way to school, and the police don't even do anything about it. When her sister dies in a murder, she is taken to her real mother, who she didn't know existed. Her whole life is thrown into confusion as she travels to a world of something she hardly ever witnessed, love.

1st meeting

Today, we had the 1st meeting of Ka Lamaku. I am excited by the number of students who expressed an interest. The most recent book I've read (from our library) was Ender's Game. You know, I'm not a science fiction buff, but I sure did enjoy this book! While the plot was mostly science fiction, the main character was so interesting to me. I wonder if we should attempt a survey to see what kind of books our middle school students like?

What's new?

Hey MS! You may be wondering what Ka Lamaku (with an okina over the u) is? Well, we've created a club for MS "readers." Many of our students love reading and I just thought this might be a fun way to share what we've read. We might possibly encourage others to read too! I've never tried a "blog" before, so this will be a new experience for all of us! Happy Reading!
